It's important to be fully prepared and informed about a surgical procedure before you go in for any surgery. Our team at Far North Surgery will provide you with the required information about any of our surgical procedures. You should come prepared with the required documents and any other items needed during or after the surgery.

Our staff will ask you a few questions and receive the required paperwork before taking you to the operating room. Our surgical team will meet with you to answer all your questions about the procedure and recovery process. They will discuss the following:

• Your health and medical history
• Over the counter or other prescribed medicines you take
• Anesthesia you will get
• Insurance and payment details for the surgery

You will be required to sign admission and consent forms for anesthesia and surgery. You should bring the following documents with you:

• Prescription card
• Insurance card
• A valid form of identification
• X-rays and lab test results

Apart from these documents, it's recommended to keep end of life documents before the surgery. These documents include:

• A will or living trust
• Advance Care Directive (Living will)
• Health Care Proxy (Power of attorney)
• Durable power of attorney
• A synopsis of your medical history and a list of medicines you take or have taken
• Medical information release
• A list of all website accounts and memberships with login details and passwords

Follow the instructions provided by your doctor or surgical team about eating and drinking. You should check with your doctor whether you can take your prescribed medicines before your surgery. Take off your glasses, contact lenses, jewelry or any body piercings if you have any.

What kind of soap can I use before surgery?

Check with your surgeon for the soap you should use before the surgery.

Can I put on deodorant before surgery?

Do not use any deodorant before the surgery.

What is the best thing to eat the day before surgery?

Your surgical team or doctor will advise you on what to eat and what not to eat before your surgery. Check with them to know what you should eat or drink before the surgery.

Can I take a shower the morning of my surgery?

You can take a bath or shower on the day of your surgery. However, don't use powder, lotion, perfume or aftershave.

Can I wear makeup when I have my surgery?

Do not wear makeup during your surgery.
